As a freelance illustrator, I turn my customers’ ideas into illustrations. This was no different in Vadotex’s case. Vadotex wanted to introduce a new clothing line to the market and was looking for two completely own characters. They wanted these to be in the style of American Superheroes and the Japanese Manga, aimed at boys aged 4 to 8. Vadotex knows exactly what it wants, but still gave me the space and freedom, as an illustrator, to fully develop all options surrounding this idea. I was given the creative freedom to develop a unique and original concept. I started work after an initial meeting and round of discussions. I was able to develop the characters completely from scratch and could therefore let my fantasies run wild. We are looking to supply a finished, unique product, together with the clothing designer, a product which will surprise the consumer. Vadotex insists on unique, original illustrations being produced which improve what already exists and discover what’s new, and which will benefit all parties involved. The first Vadotex superheroes, “Wasp” and “Willow” are the direct result of this. Vadotex gives me creative freedom, a good partnership and a customer who trusts my abilities as an illustrator. And this is exactly what every illustrator would like to have!
